our SPIRITS
Our award-winning tiny distillery is nestled in the rolling green hinterland of Australia’s beautiful Sapphire Coast.
Craftsmanship and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. Our distillery is run entirely by a team of two, using two very small stills and traditional production methods.
We firmly believe that spirits should embody the essence of their region, which is why our entire range features ingredients that we either grow here at the distillery or forage locally.
We are also the only distillery in Australia to use locally grown Australian juniper in our core, commercial range and the first distillery in the world to win a Gold medal from the International Wine and Spirit Competition for a gin made entirely on locally grown Australian juniper.
Currently, we produce two gins using Australian juniper and aim to transition our entire range to locally grown within the next year. To learn more about our juniper journey, catch us on Landline. And if you'd like to know more about how we make our spirits, watch Gav in this behind the scenes video.
The distillery is generally open Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm - if you'd like to visit for a tasting, please call 0448294210.
CELLAR DOOR
Open Saturdays & Sundays
12pm to 5pm
Dec and Jan hours are here.
With its old-world vibe and beautiful country views, our dog-friendly cellar door offers customers a place to relax and unwind. As well as a great selection of cocktails we have house-made sodas for the drivers and beer, wine and bubbles for the non-spirit drinkers.
Bookings are highly recommended and can be made by calling 0448294210. We're unable to process bookings via email or social channels, so please just give us a buzz.
All our seating is outdoors, but if the weather is fine and the sun is shining there’s no better place to be.
You're welcome to bring your own nibbles to enjoy with drinks purchased from the bar.
We are a cashless venue and, as a working farm and distillery, we’re primarily 18+.
GIN SCHOOL
Grab your bestie or a group of friends and learn how to make your own bottle of gin with the crew from North of Eden Gin!
Perfect for friends, families or a group of work colleagues, our Gin School may be the naughtiest school in town, but it will still teach you everything you need to know about the dark arts of distillation.
Create your own gin recipe from our pantry of delicious botanicals, before using one of our gorgeous copper stills to transform your ingredients into a bespoke bottle of gin to take home with you.
And because we know it's thirsty work coming up with a new gin recipe, we'll keep your spirits up with a few complimentary gin and tonics and some local nibbles over the course of your three hour class.
OUR STORY
Established in 2018, North of Eden Distillery is located on Stony Creek Farm, a 12 acre smallholding nestled in the hinterland of Australia's pristine Sapphire Coast.
We are a small, independent family run business with a total of three fulltime (human) employees, two distillery dogs, six highland cows and a few chooks.
Our ethos has always been to create spirits that reflect this beautiful part of Australia we call home. It was also important to us to create a business that "treads lightly" and operates as sustainably as possible.
Marrying those twin objectives, we consciously craft all of our spirits to use as much locally available and seasonal produce as we can. This includes using juniper grown less than 100kms from the distillery.
With a tiny production capacity, we never set out to be the biggest distillery in Australia. Our aim was simply to create the best spirits we could using largely forgotten craft production methods.
As part of that desire to rediscover old-school craftsmanship at a sustainable scale, we decided very early on in our journey to use really old technology to make our spirits. And by really old we're talking roughly 1200 years old.
There are undoubtedly faster and easier ways to make spirits, but our choice of technology, combined with our approach to sourcing our ingredients, allows us to make truly small batch, handcrafted spirits in a way that very few other commercial distilleries do.
If you'd like to know more, let Gav take you behind the scenes in this short video.
The distillery operates on Djiringanj land and we respectfully acknowledge their ongoing custodianship of the land and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging.
